{employee of the month club!}
It’s that time again: time to announce an all-star/ above-and-beyond/ stand-out Sseko staff member! This month, I have the pleasure of introducing you to one of the latest and greatest ladies, who you haven’t met yet {SPOILER ALERT}. She graduated from CLA last November and began working with us this year. Before, I get ahead of myself, let me introduce you formally.
World, meet Phionah.
Phionah stood out to us at the interviews last November. She impressed us as a mature, humble, and well-spoken young woman. She has a quiet but very strong aura about her. I (Julie) did not have the pleasure of conducting the one-on-one interview with her, but as I observed and interacted with the interviewees later in the day, I asked, “Who is that? We MUST hire her!” The answer was Phionah, and she moved to Kampala to begin working with us in January.
Nakasongola, a district north of Kampala in Central Uganda, is home for Phionah. She comes from a family with 8 children, and she is the eldest. She’s taken on the responsibility of being the first born and is encouraging all her siblings to follow in her footsteps and pursue education above everything else. When she can, she sends a portion of her income from Sseko back to her family to help pay school fees and support her younger siblings.
Phionah works on the Strap Team at Sseko. Within her first couple of months with us, she has become an expert. Her manager has said that Phionah doesn’t chat a lot during the day but stays focused on her work. This discipline has paid off and resulted in her becoming a pro at each station of the assembly-line process. Phionah is one of the few ladies who knows how to work on a strap from start to finish- and perfectly at that!
I’ve told you that she’s quiet, humble, and strong. But I haven’t told you about that smile. Oh, it’s a great smile. And it always seems to be readily available, hiding just below the surface. Phionah has so much joy and love to share, as well as a great working attitude.
Phionah is University-bound and will begin her course before the end of the year. She is hoping to become a lab technician and is also interested in becoming a trained midwife. Phionah has great things ahead of her, and we count ourselves blessed to walk with her during this season.
