What the Sseko women like about Sseko

This holiday season, by supporting Sseko, you’re giving a gift that gives back. You’re allowing us to continue providing a safe work environment, a fair wage, and a future for local Ugandan women.

Our Sseko women are

hilarious,

sweet,

thoughtful,

hard working,

talented

and a lot of fun!

We love working with them.

This is what they love about working at Ssekko.

Aunt Sarah… “I like working for Sseko so much because we get to communicate with other people and because I learn a lot. It is so wonderful. They give you enough time to rest. The salary is good and it is always on time. They care about you and help when you are struggling. They feed you a good meal and listen to you. You can suggest things and let them know your ideas, and they listen to you. And they celebrate our birthday’s and give us parties!”

Teopista… “I like working at Sseko because our payment is always on time. At other places to work in Uganda, the payment is often weeks or months late. But at Sseko you can always count on it. Also, I like that I have a lot of friends and we have fun. Everyone has a lot of joy and we are always smiling and joyful. Sseko comes from the Luganda word laughter and we are always laughing. I have learned about hard work here at Sseko. And sharing. We share ideas and things. There is a lot of unity. We treat each other like sisters and mothers. There’s a bond. And we have learned a skill. Sseko has shown us that we are talented and that people like our craft. We’ve acquired a skill.”

Robinah… “I like working at Sseko and chatting with the ladies. I’ve worked here for three years and I’ve learned how to communicate and associate with people.”

Aunt Florence…”I like working at Sseko because it’s worn in my heart. When I came here, the first thing I found was love. And they teach girls how to respect each other. The girls respect me! I have learned that love is something very good and it unites people. I like the management also and how they interact with the ladies. They pay you on time. And they helped me when my sister in-law died and when I decided to take care of orphans.”

Vicky… “I like that you get paid on time at Sseko. I have learned to work as a team and to be humble. I have also learned to respect the leaders and to be hard working. I have learned some about accessories and designs. I did not study how to work with leather, and not much with beads, so I have learned how to work with them.”

Aunt Jennifer… “I like working here because of the way we are treated. I have also learned how to make shoes, and I always want to learn more. Even if I’m slow, I can do it. Slow but sure.”
