3 WAYS TO CELEBRATE GALENTINE’S DAY WITH SSEKO

The very famous Leslie Knope made “Galentine’s Day” a national sensation when she first celebrated female friendships on a 2010 episode of Parks and Recreation

“Every Feb. 13, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas.”

In perfect Leslie Knope style, the celebration was filled with over the top crafts and waffles. Do not forget the waffles.

But this micro-holiday has long surpassed the obscure calendar celebrations such as “Clean Off Your Desk Day” (January 13), which sounds terrible by the way. In 2017, St. Martin’s Press published, BE MY GALENTINE: Celebrating Badass Female Friendship and a quick search on Amazon will yield thousands of results from party supplies and decorations to cards and gifts. It’s safe to say that Galentine’s Day is a real deal holiday and it’s a good thing too because we think celebrating female friendships is always a good idea.

So..now that the official date is fast-approaching, we can’t think of a better way to celebrate than by Hosting a Sseko Trunk Show.

What better way to celebrate women than host a party with incredible new designs that will not only elevate your wardrobe but also create economic opportunity and independence for women all over the world?

Sseko currently offers a full-time job and benefits for 62 women in Uganda and (full-time equivalent) in addition to fair-wage employment for artisans across the globe. In addition, this year we are funding 24 university scholarships some of the brightest women in Uganda and Ethiopia to continue on to university and become leaders in their community.

This year, we’ll have sent 166 women to university and 96% of the women who have graduated from Sseko have gone on to university and are either currently pursuing their degree or have graduated from college!

We gathered some of our best Galentine’s themed ideas for you as you prepare to raise a toast to your besties and support women all over the globe.

WAFFLE BRUNCH A LA LESLIE KNOPE

Knope is a big fan of waffles and so to honor the mother of the holiday, brunch it is. Dig out that waffle iron and whip up a big batch. We’re all for a boxed recipe, but if you’re feeling extra celebratory, here are some of our favorite recipes to try:

Red Velvet Marble Waffles

Blueberry Cake Waffles

Dark Chocolate Waffle Cake

Sip mimosas while you browse through the incredible new spring collection from Sseko and know that your purchase is changing lives for women everywhere. Now that’s something we can toast to.

DIY YOUR PERFECT STYLE

We all have a style all our own and Sseko Custom designs are the perfect way to reflect that style from head to toe. Gather all your gals and invite them to search through their personal style boards on Pinterest (chances are really good they all have one) and create a custom look on Sseko’s website to match her favorite look. She can even order them right there at the party and know that her items will be made by a woman who is earning a fair wage and support her own dreams.

While you’re at it, have your Sseko Fellow style some outfits on the spot from our discounted capsule collections that are only available at trunk shows!

FLOWER ARRANGING

Galentine’s Day is all about celebrating your friends, but that doesn’t mean that there can’t still be flowers involved.

This trunk show theme is perfect for the gal that wants to get the biggest bang for her time with her best friends. Your Sseko Fellow can set up and answer any questions as your guests arrive, browse, and shop. Then your guests can be invited to select from an array of loose flower stems to arrange and create her very own bouquet to take home.

Plus… her flowers can go home in pre-decorated craft paper with the perfect Galentine’s messages on them.  There’s a great tutorial over on Better Homes and Gardens.

No matter which theme is the best for your Galentine’s Day Trunk Show, you can be confident that you’re investing in women. The ones you know and the ones you don’t. As Knope would say, “I am a goddess, a glorious female warrior.” Or, alternatively, “Uteruses before duderuses. Ovaries before brovaries.”
