HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE? WHAT MOST INFLUENCES IT?

I would describe my style as classically feminine and modern with a colorfully eclectic and bit of edge. I’m influenced by everything but especially the styles of the 40s and 50s.  I like to give those retro styles a modern twist without looking like I’m wearing a costume.  But whatever my style is at the moment I’m always influenced by whether it makes me feel amazing.  If it doesn’t it’s not worth wearing.

WHY DID YOU START MUSINGS OF A CURVY LADY?

I started it because I didn’t really see anyone that looked like me  my particular style in the blogging world. I wanted to share my shopping and style experiences with other women that had my body type and be a source of information as well as inspiration. Plus size models are typically a size 14 and I’m a 20/22.  So I wanted to show how great fashion can look on this body.  Fashion is for everyone and I wanted to showcase that you don’t have to have the perfect model type body to prove that.

WHAT PIECE OF THE BRAVE MANIFESTO RESONATES MOST WITH YOU + WHY?

I absolutely love the Brave Manifesto.  There are so many little gems that totally inspire me personally but the one that resonates with me the most is “Stand up for those who can’t”.

I think of my brother Moses.  He’s 26 and has autism.  His form of communication is limited so as his co-guardian and big sis I’m his voice and advocate.  I fought to get him in the right schools, the proper services and financial aid.

But what if Moses didn’t have me? Some adults living with autism don’t have it so good and have to fend for themselves.  The idea of that breaks my heart so I make sure I do what I can to help.

The vulnerable are always at risk of being taken advantage of.  But regardless of who it is, whether it’s my brother, friends, coworkers or Sseko Sisters I feel obligated to use my voice to shed light on injustices and offer solutions to help us make it better.

ANY WORDS OF ADVICE / INSPIRATION TO OUR AUDIENCE AROUND HOW TO BECOME POSITIVE BODY ADVOCATES?

Don’t be a part of the problem.  Be a part of the solution!  There are too many social media trolls and body shamers out there that just tear down.  Counteract that negativity with something positive and build someone up.  Helping other in turn helps ourselves so give someone a compliment or smile to someone that you walk by on the sidewalk.  And the hardest and kindest thing we can always do is to look and focus on the good in others.  Beauty is a spectrum and everyone deserves dignity.

OUR SPRING CAMPAIGN THEME IS “THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT” BECAUSE WE BELIEVE IF WE WORK TOGETHER, A BRIGHTER FUTURE IS POSSIBLE. WHAT IS YOUR DREAM FOR A BRIGHTER FUTURE?

Racial prejudice is something that I always hope as a society we can overcome.  Although I’m not unrealistic to the complete elimination of racism I am hopeful that we all can be a part of the solution by how we live work and play together everyday.  There is no shortage of mean people in the world but when we continue to put out goodness, love and do our little part, a little bit of that meanness gets defeated.
