FELLOWS SPOTLIGHT: ALYSSA SINGH

The Sseko Fellows are a group of women across the U.S. who share our story, sell our products, and make a difference in their community and our world. We are so lucky to walk alongside these women in creating a brighter future, and want to take a moment to introduce you to one of them, Alyssa!

Alyssa Singh recently hit ADVENTURESS STATUS, twice! This means that twice last year, she sold over $10,000 worth of product in just one month! And that she has helped earn heaps of badges for her Sole Sister in Uganda to earn additional scholarship money for university. This ALSO means that she’ll be joining us on a FREE trip to Uganda in the spring! So, let’s introduce you to Alyssa…

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO HIT ADVENTURESS STATUS AGAIN?

Earning the trip to Uganda was, of course, a dream come true. I cannot wait to meet these incredible women and to go to Africa for the first time. But being in this program has never been about the incentives. I knew November would be the perfect month to earn substantial badges for my Sole Sister, Successor, so I wasn’t going to NOT give it everything I had just because there wasn’t a new reward to earn for myself! Going into the month I had an inkling Adventuress Status was possible again, so I challenged myself and just went for it.

SINCE BECOMING A SSEKO FELLOW WHAT’S CHANGED FOR YOU? HOW HAVE YOU GROWN?

Sseko has overwhelmed me (in the best way) with inspiration and perspective. I have a newfound ability to embrace uncertainty and figure things out as I go along. As a former perfectionist, doing anything without a ton of preparation and high likelihood of success was NOT my thing. But between the stories of Liz’s boldness and the tear-jerking letters from our Sole Sisters, let’s just say the bravery rubs off on you. And life is so much more fun this way!

Sseko has given me a clear sense of purpose. I have always had this unbridled passion and NEED to do something meaningful with my life, but I never knew what to do with it. Now I have that direction. I’m using my marketing and leadership skills for something that matters. I’ve become fascinated with the ethical fashion industry and am living more sustainably. And I’m allowing myself to dream about terrifyingly exciting and uncertain things and actually go after them. “Do things that scare you” has become my favorite part of the Sseko Brave Manifesto.

WHAT DRIVES YOU AND KEEPS YOU GOING ON THE HARD DAYS?

My dad once told me the secret to making it through life is to “eliminate all the negative options.” So to be completely honest, giving up was never an option. November was CRAZY busy and definitely had some challenges, but knowing my Sole Sister, customers, hostesses, and team members were depending on me kept me from curling up in bed and succumbing to Netflix binges. (Ok, maybe that happened ONE TIME but no one needs to know).

WHAT ARE YOU DREAMING ABOUT FOR THE FUTURE?

Starting a social enterprise to bring equality to women in India.

WHAT’S THE NEXT GOAL(S) ON YOUR LIST TO ACHIEVE AS A SSEKO FELLOW?

This year I’m going to be the best Mentor Fellow possible. I am blessed to already have a great team of amazingly talented and kind-hearted women, and I can’t wait to see how their journey with Sseko will unfold. I also want to focus more of my social media efforts on educating consumers about ethical fashion and how they can have a voice about what kind of world we want to live in. I’m on Facebook at Alyssa’s Sseko Fellowship and Instagram @AlyssaMESingh if you want the scoop!
