Sharon attends Kyambogo University, where she rooms with Sofia and Loy. A few weeks ago, over a meal of roasted pork skewers and sodas, we all sat down together to catch up and talk about the ups and downs of college life. Sharon is quick to cite money- it’s expensive to pay for books, housing, food, and all of the other experiences that come from living on her own. Her favorite part, though, is the freedom. Her days are her own, and she truly enjoys choosing how to spend her time.
Freedom, though, is not without it’s obligations. Most college students spend their mornings thinking of reasons not to be awake just quite yet, but while they’re still hitting the snooze button, Sharon is already almost finished for the day- her classes start at 7 a.m.! Even with such an early wake-up call, she loves school. She is studying economics and statistics, and has already grown a deep appreciation for the unity she sees in her classmates.
