UNEXPECTED ANSWER TO A LIFELONG DREAM: BRITTANY’S STORY

My name is Brittany Ferris. I’m 31 years old, a cat mom, and happily married to my husband Devon.

When I was a child. I knew exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up: I wanted to be a mom and I wanted to be a missionary to Africa. Unfortunately, as life often goes, neither of those dreams ever came to fruition. Though I never went to Africa, it always held a special place in my heart.

After I got married, my husband and I tried to start a biological family for 8 years. About 2 years ago, We began to feel led towards adoption, but we had a huge goal. Our goal was to pursue adoption DEBT FREE! With a financial fee somewhere around $35,000, we knew it wasn’t going to be easy but we serve a mighty God and we believed He wouldn’t call us to something without first making a way for us to pursue it.

As we started to save our money, I began looking for a secondary job. I needed something that would allow me to work at my own pace, bring in some extra cash, and possibly be a means to become a stay home parent. As I looked into companies that could help me reach that goal, Sseko Designs continuously came up. Though others enticed me, there was something special about Sseko. I attended one online social event and I was hooked! It perfectly combined my desire to be a stay home mom with my lifelong love for Africa!!

One thing I love about Sseko is that, once you become a Fellow, you get matched with a woman from Uganda who is working towards her own dreams. I got matched with a young woman named Sarah. She was the oldest of six and had lost her parents at a young age. I felt so connected to Sarah. Maybe because she was a child without parents and I feel like a parent without a child.

Sarah said something that I love, “Never lose hope. Because suffering is never the end“.

With everything that she had gone through, this young woman had the spirit to continuously maintain hope, and I couldn’t wait to write to her and tell her how much those words meant to me. Sarah has gone on to college now to pursue her dream of working in human resources, but I will never forget her or the connection we made. She is one of the most beautiful souls I’ve ever encountered!

It has been just about a year since I joined Sseko. I originally joined for the option to gain some extra cash, but I remember saying to my husband that, “this felt like the start of a beautiful relationship.” I was right, It WAS the start of a beautiful relationship with so many women, both here in the U.S. and in Uganda. Joining Sseko changed me in ways I never expected. The friendships forged are richer than I could have ever anticipated. Sseko has some of the most amazing women within it and I’m a better person for knowing all of them.

This past year I have been loved and accepted at every turn. We are a sisterhood of women of all ages and walks of life, and each and every individual is so important to this community. We have a saying here.”No one belongs here more than you.”

If you, dear reader, are longing for connections, friendship, or just something new, Come join us!

And no one belongs in it more than YOU!
