Our Story

2009

Sseko began as a way to generate income for high potential, talented young women in Uganda to continue on to university.

2010-2014

Work, work, work! Sseko grew and grew, becoming the largest footwear exporter in East Africa and growing the number of scholarships we can provide.

2015

Sseko Designs appeared on NBC’s Shark Tank and the world fell in love with our versatile strappy Ribbon Sandals, little did they know, Sseko produces so much more!

2016

The Sseko Fellows program launched, and for the first time, women all across the U.S. launched their own impact businesses by selling Sseko and styling their communities.

2018

Sseko became a Verified Member of the Fair Trade Federation. As we continue to grow, we believe that being aligned with an organization like the Fair Trade Federation helps our community and our consumers understand and trust just how seriously we take this.

2019

We’ve just welcomed our biggest class of college-bound women in Uganda to date, and we’re continuing to grow our impact with artisans around the world too! Every single day, women around the U.S. are earning money as they share this story and beautiful products.
