Go bold with our Black Karina Straw Cowboy Hat. Inspired by old western films and dusty roads, this hat is functional and fun with a black vegetable-tanned leather neck tie and strap. Like all of our hats, the Karina is hand-pressed by our artisan partners in Ecuador and made from paja toquilla straw.
We partner with a fourth generation family of hat-makers to highlight the traditional hat making process while adapting new, modern designs.
Our hats are handmade and one-of-a-kind. This means that no two are exactly alike and almost all contain irregularities from size to color. Please allow for slight imperfections as this is what adds to the unique character of each hat and band.

Sizing
If you are in between sizes or unsure of your hat size, we recommend sizing up and using a hat filler or hat sizing tape for the perfect fit. To find your personal hat size, you will have to measure the circumference of your head. You'll need either a flexible tape-measure or a long piece of fabric (i.e. scarf or string) and a ruler. Simply wrap it around your head about 2-3" above your eyebrows) to find the circumference.

Impact
We partner with a fourth generation family of hat-makers to highlight the traditional hat making process while adapting new, modern designs. All of our hats are made by hand in their at-home studio in a small town in Ecuador.
In 2018, we launched our first bag collection after partnering with a small group of talented women in the highlands of Ecuador. We spent months living with this community to understand their story and craft. This season birthed our vision to create beautiful products through sustainable and traditional means.
What started with a few simple bags grew into a collection of thoughtful heirloom accessories. Over the years, we have expanded to work with a women-ran family hat studio, as well as a small team of leathersmiths. Today, Minga is always seeking to grow authentically alongside our partners and customers, while staying true to the artisanal processes and roots we have grown from.

Returns
Your hat will ship to you directly from Made by Minga. We are a one-woman show in the US and do our best to ship as fast as possible so please be mindful. Some orders placed with Minga will take 3-4 days of processing. We ship Monday-Friday and orders generally take 2-4 business days until they arrive at your home. If there is a rush or special request, feel free to contact us.
Minga is not responsible for any lost or stolen packages. If you provided us with the wrong shipping address we are not liable to give you a refund or replacement of the product that you purchased.
*All sale merchandise and international purchases are final. No returns or exchanges.
Returns and Exchanges
We are happy to accept domestic returns* on any unworn, unwashed, full-priced merchandise within 14 days of the order date for a refund* to the original form of payment. All items must have their original tags and packaging. After 14 days, all sales are final. We do not accept returns on any orders using a promo code. We do not accept returns on exchanges.
Please note: A processing fee of $18.99 per item will be automatically deducted from your total refund. We also exclude shipping from your original order. If you opt for a refund in store credit, this $18.99 fee is waived. Store credit does not expire, and can be used towards any future orders.

You can expect to receive your refund or new item within two weeks of dropping your package with the return shipper.

Care
Caring for your hat
If your hat needs a tune-up, we recommend using a soft bristle brush or lint roller to lightly clean it. If you have any stains on your hat, you can use an all-natural soap and white damp cloth to remove the stain. On our wool hats, stains may come out by using sandpaper. If your hat gets wet, allow it to dry on a flat surface so it maintains its shape.
Re-flatten or shaping the brim of your hat
If your hat is losing it’s shape or stiffness, you can easily reshape it at home. You will need an iron, ironing board, and damp sheet or cloth. Place the hat on an ironing board with a damp sheet covering brim where the iron will make contact. This will avoid the iron burning or scaring your hat. With steam, gradually iron the brim of your hat. Once done ironing, let your hat cool on a hard and flat surface for at least 10 mins.
